High Teck “Grit Happens”
Abrasives Brand Launch.

Role: Lead Graphic Designer
Scope: Branding • Packaging • Product System • Marketing • Merchandise
Industry:
Automotive & Industrial Refinishing

Served as the lead and sole designer on the “Grit Happens” abrasives brand, taking ownership after upper management declined the manufacturer’s original packaging concept. With the supplier located in a different geographic region, I was trusted to reimagine the brand from the ground up.

Developed a clean, bold, and scalable visual identity built around the existing High Teck flame logo, using a black package system with edgy graphic elements to create strong shelf impact while maintaining brand equity. Designed the line as a cohesive family of abrasives, unified under the “Grit Happens” slogan, while clearly organizing multiple part numbers, grits, and product types for easy identification.

Executed full packaging design, promotional flyers, a primary end-user marketing flyer, and brand merchandise (T-shirt graphic) to drive brand awareness, product education, and launch visibility across automotive, body, and industrial markets.

Merchandise is a powerful extension of a brand launch, turning identity into something visible, wearable, and memorable. For Grit Happens, branded apparel reinforced the bold visual system and slogan, driving awareness and credibility beyond the shelf and into

real-world shop environments.

Grit Happens — But Good Design Is Intentional.

The 2026 High Teck Abrasives catalog features a clean, high-impact layout that transforms complex product data into a visually intuitive experience. Spanning multiple product lines — Green, Purple Ceramic, Flex Discs, Job Packs, and Accessories — the design addresses the challenge of organizing dense industrial specifications into a structured, readable, and brand-driven system.

The images shown here represent select spreads from the catalog, highlighting key layout structures and product sections — not the complete book.

The result?
A catalog that cuts as clean as the products inside.
